Help! I've just had my 2 girls shaved and they basically got a blade 1 all over and they look terrible. The lady that has been cutting my girls for years but I've finally come to my senses and realise it's not fair having the girls look like they belong in a rat pack! I don't recognise my poor little 6 month old :(
Has anyone got any suggestions?
Willow is terrible when it comes to getting haircuts and brushing. She's very difficult when it comes to anything to do with her legs hence by the time I get the dog groomer in she is so matted there is nothing to be done but shave her legs. This is why I don't like the "westie look" as it's not practical for her. I also now live in bush type settings so anything not pinned down sticks to her.
I'm also not that keen on sedation or spending 4 hours waiting for the groomer - but like a devoted parent I don't want to just leave her either.
I'm not sure what to do for the best. I won't have to do anything until the beginning of next year, but I want to have a plan in place as I don't want to have to go through this again.
I was thinking that they should have attachments to the clippers (like the human ones) so that you don't get a blade 1 all over. I guess the other thing I should have asked for was to leave their faces so they at least resembled a westie.
If you don't see me at the next walk it's because I'm toooooo embarrassed.
Any advice would be welcome.

Grooming
Amy,
I have had weaties for 29 years. After having bad experiances with groomers I bought clippers and just looked at pictures on the web and tried to copy the styles.. Granted , it took a couple of times ,but I was able to do a better job than the groomers in our area. As far as the leg problem with your one westie , here is a trick I use,,I buy the small/medium dentastick ,by pedigree, and slice them into 1/2 inch chunks ... I get the trust to hold their legs by giving them a treat, when they get restless ,,,, another treat .. Now mine love the sound of the clippers and come running .. I no longer use treats because they love grooming time .. Also try babying them with more attention when gromming.. Having westies is all about them [ as they remind us all the time] Ant questions , please e-mail me .. I love all my kids and am happy to help anyone ....Kenan

Westie Groomer
Hi,
After trying 5 different Groomers I have found a wonderful Groomer at Benson's Best in Show Dog Grooming at Holland Park West. Kiah is fantastic and will do anything you ask for and is great with difficult Westie's who don't like to be groomed like my little boy Hugo! They book by appointment so you don't have to wait for hours and also there is a cafe attached to the Salon where you can wait and have a coffee and cake! Ph: 38478148.
westie cut
Try Slick -As-A-Dog at Camp Hill and ask for Ron. He only clips on Mondays and is a westie owner. He clipped Heidi today - first time, based on a referral. Best cut ever.
Haircut
Hi, using the treats is a great idea - I had to do this for my Westie and still do on occassion. This way you can at least brush your Westie to try and remove the tangles in between your grommer visits. Or you could buy a Coat King to give a mini groom to your Westie in between grooming visits as well. I have one and use it regularly. http://www.marsgroomingproducts.com.au/
haircuts
your poor girls getting a #1 :(
they have attachments for the clippers in all different "sizes" (for want of a better word) . I would be asking for a #6 at the smallest. I get my boy fairly short, but ask for just a hint of a skirt, and just a bit of feathering on the legs for summer.
have you tried to make grooming more enjoyable for them? My dog is difficult, but I find a pocket full of liver treats gives me his full cooperation!
Good luck with it. And hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge might be able to advise further.
Haircuts
You poor thing. Don't worry, their hair will grow back eventually. In the meantime, see if you can buy a westie jumpsuit for the little babies.
Look at the bright side...at least they'll be nice and cool because it looks like we're in for a long hot summer. You never know, could be the start of a whole new fashion trend for Westies!
Haircut
Sounds like a very sad tale. I can assure you though, that clippers DO have comb attachments to allow for different length cuts. I would suggest you look around for another clipper there are lots about! Be warned that if you take them to the clipper with matting and tangles - it will all be shaven off so you really should perservere with the brushing despite Willow's protests.
A good clip takes HOURS so you will just have to bite the bullet and leave them behind - I insist my clients do this.
Good Luck
