Million Paws Walk 2010

Miliion Paws Walk LogoAs usual, Westie Walkers will be representing the Westies of Brisbane at the annual Million Paws Walk.  This year, for a change, we thought we'd attend the Brisbane walk rather than the one at Redcliffe.  The Brisbane walk is being held at the University of Queensland campus, which should provide for a lovely walk along the river.  You can pre-register online at the Brisbane Million Paws Walk's website.  Alternatively, you can register on the day from 7:30am.

Date: Sunday, 16 May 2010, meet at 8:45am for 9am start (you may want to get there earlier to get a parking spot)
Location: Wep Harris Oval, St Lucia Campus, University of Queensland
Address: Sir William Macgregor Drive, St Lucia
Parking: On-street parking is available
Walk commences: 9am
Meeting point:
Near the registration desk

Simply Social 1 - 2009

The first social walk of the year was held at Methyr Park on Sun 15 February 2009. The breezes from the Brisbane River provided welcome relief from the steamy heat that prevailed after the forecast showers fortunately stayed away. There was a fantastic turnout with 38 dogs keen and eager to enjoy the afternoon,  of which 35 were Westies and 3 Wannabe's. It was great to see everyone, new faces and loyal regulars alike!

March of the Westies

Thank you all for coming to the March of the Westies Fundraising event on 30 November 2008. A total of 75 Westies are known to have attended the final Westie Walk of the year! As usual in addition, our loyal Honorary Westie Chloe the miniature poodle was present, along with a motley crew of Wannabe Westies, including labradors, a beagle and some adorable no name brands!

Altogether, the sale of raffle tickets for prizes (kindly donated by our major sponsors Zone Fresh Gourmet Markets, di Bella Coffee and the Pack at Number 58), donations, and profits made from the sale of Westie Walker caps raised over $500 for Guide Dogs Queensland. Maggie is also donating the money she raised throughout 2008 to cover the manufacturing costs of the cap to Guide Dogs Queensland as well.

Westie Walker caps cost $20 and can be ordered by email. There must be a minimum of 25 paid up requests before the manufacturing run can be processed. If there aren't 25 orders by the next walk (planned for February 2009) the money paid will be refunded. All profits from the sale of caps will be donated to Guide Dogs Queensland from Westie Walkers.

Update 3/12/2008: Our photos from the walk have been posted in the Westie Walkers flickr pool.  If you have photos from the walk, please post them to this pool on flickr too.  Membership of flickr is free, so if you're not already a member, sign up for an account.

Simply Social 2 - 27th April 2008

Thank you all for making the walk yesterday afternoon so enjoyable. In addition to the regulars, it was lovely meeting Westies and their owners who joined us for the first time. We hope you will join us again on future walks.

It was great catching up and hearing about the adventures your Westies have been having over the last few months. Like Angus who has 3 stitches in his nose after sticking it through a fence where a larger dog lives, and Maggie who was found safe after having been missing for about 5 weeks. We were very happy to hear that Whiskey has found a new home, and everyone loved seeing the little puppy, Lotus, who made the trip all the way from the Sunshine Coast for the walk.

Here are a few photos from the walk, and more can be found on the Westie Walkers group page at flickr. If you'd like to share your photos from the walk, please join flickr, it's free, and add them to this flickr group, or post a link to where you've uploaded them in the comments below.

See you all in a few months time for the next walk, or at the Redcliffe Million Paws Walk in May.

Amidst the wind and sunshine several members of Westie Walkers attended the Redcliffe Million Paws walk. See you all next year. Thanks for supporting the RSPCA.

Simply Social 1 for 2008

UPDATE: Hope you all had as good a time as we did at the first social walk of the year. I have posted the photos we took on the Westie Walkers group page at flickr. If you'd like to share your photos from the walk, please join flickr and add them to this flickr group.

See you all in a few months time for the next walk.

That was 007

Thanks to everyone who attended the Westies On Parade walk on Sunday 18th Nov. It was our final walk for what has been an eventful year for Westie Walkers. 2007 saw the launch of this website, which has hopefully given you a platform for sharing information within our community. You were all fantastic in helping us find a new home for Eddie (formerly known as Khan), and kindly donating to our focus charity - Guide Dogs Queensland. You've also helped direct queries about finding Westie puppies, and shared stories in the forums about grooming, pet-friendly accommodation, and Westie health issues. So, here's to 2008! We hope to see you all at our walks next year.

Our photos of the walk have been posted on Flickr in the Wilston Westie's group. We'd love to see your photos from the walk too, so join Flickr, it's free, and add your photos. Also, if you register at Flickr, you'll be able to see larger versions of the photos.

Here's a group photo of the 40 odd Westies that attended the walk. It's pretty hard getting a shot with all of them facing forwards, but there are 3 more in the Flickr group, so hopefully one of them will have your dog facing forwards.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Simply Social 3 walk on Sunday. We hope you all had an enjoyable afternoon, we and Maggie certainly did. If you haven't already done so, you can read Maggie's first-hand account of the walk over at her blog.

We have posted our photos from the walk in the Wilston Westies photo group on flickr. If you are a member of flickr, feel free to join the group and post your photos of the walk there too. If you are not a member, why not join flickr and add your photos. It is easy and it is free.

There was one Westie that was a bit too lazy to make the walk. He preferred just to hang around.

Million Paws Walk and other Exciting News!

Redcliffe MPW

The Million Paws Walk was a great day out! There were lots of dogs but us Westies stuck together and revelled in the attention we got. Luckily for Maggie, there were Bronson, Jessie, Abby, Savannah, Mac, Millie and Wilson from Westie Walkers who all showed up. Her friend from last year, Salty, wasn't hard to find either, being the only other Westie in the crowd apart from the Westie Walkers. So now she's joined our gang, and clearly being another Pooter literate Pooch, has already posted a forum topic for you all to join in on.

We also got the Very Exciting News from Abby and Savannah's Pack Leaders, that our much loved Westie Walker Khan, now known as Eddie, is doing fantastically well in his new home. Happily, he is still in the Westie Walker crowd, and hopefully we will all get to see him again soon at one of our walks.

Simply Social 2

Simply Social 2, held on the 22nd April 2007 at Kalinga Dog Park, saw the best turn out so far for a Westie Walkers walk. It was great to see some old friends that we hadn't seen since the Inaugural walk, as well as some new faces and black noses. After getting reacquainted in the dog park, thirty four Westies and a few Wannabees tired themselves out on a walk along Kedron Brook.

For a look at all the photos we took at the walk, check out the set of photos from the walk.

Simply Social 1 - Sun, 28th January 2007

By Maggie The Philanthropooch

It was early, but a whole bunch of West Highland Terriers were there! In total 20 Westies showed up and 2 Wannabes Westies. What a great Play Date you guys, I had SO much fun catching up with old friends and making new ones. Let me start there (that is Junior Westies):

Inaugural Westie Walkers Walk, Sunday, 25th June 2006

About 25 Westies and their friends participated in the inaugural Wilston Westie Walk which was held on the 25th June 2006. By all accounts, every one had a fantastic time, and if your pooch was anything like our Maggie, who was exhausted afterwards, you would have had a peaceful evening. Thank you to all who came along, and for your kind donations to the Guide Dogs Queensland. We'd love to hear what you thought of the event, and if you have any suggestions for the next one.
